STORY:

Earth Outpost ORION STATION, 2473 AD ( P A R T - 2 )

The battle for control of Orion Station Continues!

Following the events of Orion Station Part-1 (an Assault map) the station
was invaded and has key areas held by a hostile force. You and your station fellows managed to evade capture during the initial attacks, and fought to contact the Earth Fleet...

The main force of the Invaders is fast approaching Orion Station, and will arrive before the Earth Ships can get there! You have been ordered to disrupt the enemy and try to

retake control of key areas in the station - starting with the Oprations Center! So take their flag and as many of them along with it!!!

Extremely Sincere Thanks to Revelation and Swanky for allowing
Fate-Of-Time to happen. Considering all they went through and
the long wait, they are both to be commended!! U guys ROCK!

This map is based on the first part of the planned Assault Map AS-FoT-OrionsCursePart2... That map was a long time in development
but becamse plagued with bugs and rendering problems as it
approached completeion. Due the massive delays caused by that project
i decided it was not worth the effort to try and complete the AS
map as it was envisioned - it was just too complex to do in UE1.

All is not lost though, i have had much better success developing
CTF maps, which are usually simpler to do and program than assault
maps. FoT had been waiting a long long time for the Assault map and
regretably I had to inform them there would not be and Assult map.

However, they did agree to accept a CTF map if I could deliver it
quickly! That is how this Part-2 map came about... So similar to
the way in which an earlier version of AS-OrionsCurse was used to
create a CTF map (CTF-FNB-OrionsRevenge), the part of the latest
version of AS-OrionsCurse is providing the basis for a CTF map...!

Regarding the fate of the OrionsCurse Assault project, there is LOL
_STILL_ and assault map... although, much smaller now, and that
said, with a little work can be completed as a much smaller and
more managable project. That however, is not a promise, just a
muse. Perhaps if there is another FoT pack in the future, OC will
pop up there... (Don't hold your breath though...

HISTORY:

This map was originally designed for the Unreal Playground Assault mapping
contest which wrapped up in December 2003. The contest was won by uber-mapper
Lord Simeon Spargo who produced the ONLY completed map (AS-UP-Manor)

Nov-2003: Began Work on the Orion's Curse project, a giant assault map.
Dec-2003: Map development stops when map no longer compiles/renders in UED2 or UT.
Jan-2004: Map split into 4 smaller maps of 3 sections each, and work proceeds on part-1.
Feb-2004: Works stops due to switch in interest to CTF maps and ut2004 mapping.
Sep-2004: Start up work again on OC part-1 to include in CTC-2 mappack.
Oct-2004: OC Part-1 released to BETA at UTAssault.net, Massive feeback received.
Nov-2004: OC Part-1 modified and simplified as per feedback, BETA-2 released at UTA.
Jan-2005: Beta-2 becomes the new Part-1, with removed sections merged with part2 and part3.
Feb-2005: Part-1 missed CTC-2 (released DM-CTC-DeadlyWorship instead) OC hits the shelf.
Jun-2005: OC Part-3 map pulled from assault project to use as base for a CTF map.
Sep-2005: OC part-4 map becomes the new part-3, CTF-FNB-OrionsRevenge is released.
Oct-2006: Start work again on OC maps for the FoT4 mappack, focus on completing part-1.
Aug-2007: OC part-1 completed for FoT assault mappack, volume 1.
May-2008: Start work again on OC maps for the FoT5 mappack, focus on completing part-2. Unfortnately, a 3 month period followed in which no
mapping progress could be made, causing serious problems for the FoT
initiative...
Oct-2008: OC part-2 work resumes with intensity but unfortuantaely the
Assault map itself becomes bug-ridden and unmanageable and has to be
cancelled.
Nov-2008: Some sections of the Part-2 Assault map were used to create a
(simpler) CTF version of Orions Curse Part 2, and this map was accepted
for the Fate-Of-Time mappack.

PERFORMANCE ISSUES
--------------------------------------------
Might Lag in high areas due to some excessive polys.
I did test ALL the scenes in the map under live conditions, and can say
I DON'T LAG AT ALL with 16 bots.

However I can't guarantee performance for anyone else who may have
An older computer system - I would guess if you have a CoreDuo like me
with a decent GPU you shouldn't have any problems at all since I have no
problems.

This is _not_ a high poly map by todays UT99 standards! That said, I did

a Botmatch or an Internet game.

from SystemShock2. Any of the Richrig Textures I used in the map are
COPYRIGHT by Rich 'Akuma' Eastwood.

- All the signs and many of the StarTrek type panels were made by me, some
of the panels were ganked from various StarTrek games (can't remember which now)

- So, as usual, textures indicated by "_rb" or "_fnb" in the name are free for
use by anyone, i don't really care about getting any credit, so just help yourselves
and have fun

- Thanks to the peeps at Unreal Playground who provided some
feedback to screenshots posted in the level design forums
regarding the original AS Part-2 map that this map was created
from.

- Lastly, I want to thank Milb and Swanky for starting the whole FoT mappack thing
in the first place - great way to get new maps out to the community and keep UT99
alive and well, even though it's getting pretty long in the teeth, lol!
