DESCRIPTION:

This mutator adds options to prevent flag camping and flag spamming in CTF gametypes.

INSTALLATION:

Uninstall any prior versions of this mutator first.

There is an automated ut4mod package or manual zip package available.

To use the ut4mod, simply download and run the FlagProtection_V5.ut4mod. In order for this to work, you must meet the requirements (UT2004) and have the ut4mod file type properly associated with UT2004.

To perform a manual install instead, download FlagProtection_V5.zip. Extract the contents to the appropriate directories in your main UT2004 directory.

The following files are installed to your UT2004 directory:
..\System\FlagProtection_V5.u
..\System\FlagProtection_V5.ucl
..\System\FlagProtection_V5.int
..\System\FlagProtection.ini
..\Help\FlagProtection_V5ReadMe.txt

CONFIGURATION:

ServerPackages->

Flag Protection uses the bAddToServerPackages value to automate this process. This option requires the UT2004 3236 patch or higher. If you are using an older version, you will have to manually add the server packages to your UT2004.ini file. The UT2004.ini can be found in the System directory.

To add the server packages:
Open the UT2004.ini with a text editor.
Find the section called [Engine.GameEngine].
After the last "ServerPackages=" entry add:
ServerPackages=FlagProtection_V5

Settings->

All settings can be found on the mutator GUI configuration page. The following is a brief description of each setting:

Based Protection Time: Sets the protection time of a based flag. The carrier will be invulnerable for this amount of time after removing a flag from its base.

Based Protection Radius: Sets the protection radius around a flag base. Set this to 0 to disable the radius check. If this is greater than 0, the flag protection will only be extended this far from the flag base. Beyond this distance, the carrier will take normal damage even if there is Protection Time remaining.

Dropped Protection Time: Sets the protection time of a dropped flag. The carrier will be invulnerable for this amount of time after picking up a dropped flag.

Dropped Protection Radius: Sets the protection radius around a dropped flag. Set this to 0 to disable the radius check. If this is greater than 0, the flag protection will only be extended this far from the spot the dropped flag was picked up. Beyond this distance, the carrier will take normal damage even if there is Protection Time remaining.

Based Hit Radius: Sets the radius of a based flag's hit cylinder. Setting this to 0 will remove the hit cylinder on based flags.

Based Hit Height: Sets the height of a based flag's hit cylinder. Setting this to 0 will remove the hit cylinder on based flags.

Based Hit Damage: Sets the penalty damage for hitting a based flag. Use 17 to penalize the actual hit damage (reflect the actual hit damage back to the player). This is the amount of health players lose for each based flag hit.

Dropped Hit Radius: Sets the radius of a dropped flag's hit cylinder. Setting this to 0 will remove the hit cylinder on dropped flags.

Dropped Hit Height: Sets the height of a dropped flag's hit cylinder. Setting this to 0 will remove the hit cylinder on dropped flags.

Dropped Hit Damage: Sets the penalty damage for hitting a dropped flag. Use 17 to penalize the actual hit damage (reflect the actual hit damage back to the player). This is the amount of health players lose for each dropped flag hit.

Dropped Grace Period: Sets the time delay for spawning a hit cylinder after a flag is dropped. Used to avoid punishing players who were legitimately shooting at the flag carrier.

Same Flag Hit Penalty: Damages players for shooting their team's flag. If disabled, no penalty damage is assessed for hitting your own team's flags.

Other Flag Hit Penalty: Damages players for shooting the other team's flag. If disabled, no penalty damage is assessed for hitting the other team's flags.

Penalize Carriers: Allows flag penalty damage to hurt flag carriers. If disabled, a flag carrier will not be penalized for flag hits.

Broadcast Penalty Messages: Broadcasts flag penalty death messages to all players. The dying player is always notified when their death is caused by a flag penalty. If enabled, this setting will notify all players of the death as well (similar to spree messages).

In certain cases, dedicated servers may not have access to the GUI mutator configuration page. In these cases, WebAdmin can be used. These settings will be located in the WebAdmin "Flag Protection" group. You can also change your settings by directly editing the FlagProtection.ini file. It will be located in the System directory.

NOTES:

Flag Protection was coded and tested with the 3355 patch, but it should work with any retail UT2004 version. Please report any issues to the e-mail address above.

06/19/2005- Version 5 compiled and tested. Moved the configuration settings to the "Flag Protection" group. Added flag penalty announcement sounds. Changed flag penalty damage to ignore armor. This version is final, and the development files will be available under the Open Unreal Mod License.

04/05/2005- Version 3 compiled and tested. Added extra code to prevent orphaned flag hit cylinders. Added code for real-time WebAdmin configuration changes. Prepared the development files for release under the Open Unreal Mod License.

02/11/2005- Version 2 compiled and tested. Added protection for dropped flags, configurable penalty damage, flag hit sound, protected carrier hit sound, flag penalty death messages, configurable team check for flag penalties, and a toggle for carrier penalties. Updated the protection radius check to use the carrier's location instead of the flag's location.

02/05/2005- Version 1 compiled and tested. I only tested it briefly, so the default config values could be way off from useful values.
