DESCRIPTION:

Flagtastic is a mutator that creates "accessory" team colors for the red and blue teams in CTF gametypes. These colors are applied to team mesh skins including flags, banners, and monitors. The flag icons on the CTF HUD and the team symbols on the scoreboard are also colorized.

Flagtastic colors are set by the server. You will see the colors you have specified if you are hosting a listen server or playing an instant action game. If you are the client of a server running Flagtastic, you will see the colors set on the server.

INSTALLATION:

Uninstall any prior versions of this mutator first.

There is an automated ut4mod package or manual zip package available.

To use the ut4mod, simply download and run the Flagtastic_V3.ut4mod. In order for this to work, you must meet the requirements (UT2004) and have the ut4mod file type properly associated with UT2004.

To perform a manual install instead, download Flagtastic_V3.zip. Extract the contents to the appropriate directories in your main UT2004 directory.

The following files are installed to your UT2004 directory:

..\System\Flagtastic_V3.int
..\System\Flagtastic.ini

CONFIGURATION:

ServerPackages->

Flagtastic uses the bAddToServerPackages value to automate this process. This option requires the UT2004 3236 patch or higher. If you are using an older version, you will have to manually add the server packages to your UT2004.ini file. The UT2004.ini can be found in the System directory.

To add the server packages:
Open the UT2004.ini with a text editor.
Find the section called [Engine.GameEngine].
After the last "ServerPackages=" entry add:
ServerPackages=Flagtastic_V3

Colors->

Flagtastic uses color settings in RGB (Red,Green,Blue) format.

You can configure the colors through the mutator's custom config menu using sliders. Previews of each color will be generated whenever a slider is changed.

In certain cases, dedicated servers may not have access to the GUI mutator config. You can still set your desired colors in the Flagtastic.ini file. Team0Color corresponds to the red team and Team1Color corresponds to the blue team. The default Flagtastic.ini sets a pure red color for the red team and a pure blue color for the blue team. Edit these entries to change the colors on your server. You can figure out RGB color values in most image editing programs, UnrealEd, or UDE. Leave the "A" or Alpha value of the colors at 255 or you will create problems with the colorizations.

TeamSymbols->

Problem: The team symbols that were updated for UT2004 (25 in all) do not work properly. These symbols wrap around flag and banner poles and generally run into the wrong areas. This occurs in stock UT2004, so it is not a problem with the mutator. Running Flagtastic with some vivid colors really exposes the problem with these new team symbols. Using these team symbols generally has ugly results.

Solution 1: Use the UT2003 team symbols that were not updated for UT2004. You can figure out which ones work properly by opening the TeamSymbols_UT2003.utx package in UnrealEd. All of these team symbols will work well. Some examples are the BoneCrushers (hammer) and the LordsOfPain (evil teddy bear with sword).

Solution 2: Download and install my TeamSymbols_FT package. This includes replacements for all the new UT2004 team symbols as well as a few new ones. These symbols were scaled down and the alpha masks were redone and simplified. If you install the TeamSymbols_FT package, you will have new versions of the UT2004 team symbols. This package does not and cannot remove the originals, so you still have to be careful which symbols you choose. You can tell them apart from the stock versions in the team symbol browser because the replacements are slightly smaller.

NOTES:

Flagtastic was coded and tested with the 3355 patch, but it should work with any retail UT2004 version. This version was tested successfully with various ATI Radeons and with UT2004's GeForce 1 and 2 emulation. Please report any compatibility issues (including your video card info) to the e-mail address above.

CHANGELOG:

04/05/2005- Version 3 compiled and tested. Imported the .utx package, and performed a final code clean-up. I never found a better solution for the glitches with TexScalers and the 2004 team symbols. This version is final, and the development files will be available under the Open Unreal Mod License.

12/26/2004- Version 2 compiled and tested. Just some general code clean-up.

08/09/2004- Version 1 compiled and tested. Updated FT_Materials package to fix issues with Radeon 7500 cards not using fallback materials when needed. Changed flag shaders to use self illumination.
