UTzone works the best for me so no surprise there In hindsight the massive lag was temporary fortunately.
I don't know if you are the guy to ask but is it possible I have different (lag) axperiences between fa2k1 and 2? Anyways thanks for the responses! |

I think the two servers are using diffrent tickrates (but I am not sure, didn't do my research )

We are working on a new Server-Settings.
Since years, each UTzone-Serv and Fa2K-Serv is started with ONE Dedi-Version (multiple ini's) In the next weeks, each Serv gets ONE fresh Dedi-Installation (symlinks to the default dedi-server)

So all configs/serversettings are (will be) the same?
Is Despe hosting direct to a backbone or through another commercial host? I know little about such things but I'm curious like a cat. Thats why they call me whiskers. UT would be way more boring without your efforts, so just in case another high five |

Configs will all stay the same, we only refresh them sometimes. Only the Files will be totally reworked due to the completely different control mechanics we are using now. Maps, Mutators etc. will stay the same unless we found some cool new stuff.
Imagine three dedicated servers. Three copys of the server files. Now we dont copy those files, we only create links to the original files which are never changing (eg. ucc-bin, which basically is UT2004.exe for a server) and only create copy's of files which can change. (CustomMaps, Configs, etc.) In this example we can reduce our harddisk-usage about 66%. And the more servers we run the more disk-space is saved. (And compared to any other private organisation we host tons of servers for multiple games... and that on one single machine!) Despe (that is Donzi and me o/) is running two Rootservers. One Server is running Virtual Servers (containing UTzone.de and Websites of Customers, also email and stuff) and the other one is running our gameservers which is quite more expensive due to the better internet connection (ping!). We rent these rootservers (read: real hardware) and use them to provide services for our customers and of course UTzone-Users. Hope i could provide the information you were looking for.

One thing that is unclear to me that how the performance of the dataprovider (harddrive) is increased by using one source/location instead of different locations when all data is on the same drive (bet raid is not much a factor here?). Is that because there is no need to seek elsewhere and that simultaneous access therefore take less time? No idea if I make any sense. Geändert von Mother_Teresa (18.11.2013 um 23:07 Uhr) |

Linking to a file happens way quicker than copy the file. So if we have a new customer and we click the "Install"-button we're done, no transfer-times, no setup time. Thats the big feature, the saved disk space is just a nice-to-have.

rewritten firewall script, apology tonight for the short failure.
the server was not off, I set the firewall to sharp and it banged me also from the server. but, I had simultaneously run a different script, the "spin-seated" script, that after 2 minutes without input opens the firewall for playing
